Race Day Information

TIMES:

  6:00 a.m. - Race-Day Registration and Packet Pick-Up
  7:00 a.m. – Venue opens / Survivor Breakfast
  8:00 a.m. - Survivor Parade and Celebration
  8:45 a.m. - 10K Start
  8:50 a.m. - 1 mile Fun Run/Walk (start line window closes at 9:00 a.m.)
  9:15 a.m. - 5K Start for timed runners
  9:20 a.m. - 5K Start for untimed runners/walkers
  10:30 a.m. - Celebration / Live Band / Awards 

PARKING:  To ensure a good parking spot, arrive early.  There will be a large crowd!  Parking is available in the empty lots on both sides of the race venue.  A limited number of handicap parking spaces are available on the west side of the race grounds in the parking lot nearest Nicholson Drive. Handicap parking will be designated by signage.

RACE-DAY REGISTRATION:  Go to the Registration Tent (marked by purple balloons) or ask a volunteer for assistance.

SURVIVORS: The Survivors’ Tent (marked by hot pink balloons) will open at 7:30 am.    Have your friends and/or family join you at the photo booth to capture a lasting memory of Race for the Cure 2016!  (Add photo booth info) 

Bus transportation for Survivors - The Survivor Express – A bus will be available for survivors who wish to participate in the race but who feel they cannot walk or run.  Those wishing to ride should meet behind the Survivor’s Tent immediately after the conclusion of the Survivor Parade.

PLEASE VISIT SPONSOR TABLES AND BOOTHES: We cannot have the Race without them… and you!

Exit Acadian Thruway, turn left, and cross Perkins Rd.  Stay on Acadian Thruway which will turn into Stanford Ave.  Stay in the left lane and Stanford Ave will turn into LSU Ave.  Continue straight then turn right on Highland Rd.  After entering the Gates of LSU, turn left onto Nicholson Ext, the Old Front Nine will be on your left before you reach Nicholson Drive.

Driving East-Bound on I-10: 
Exit Acadian Thruway, turn right, and cross Perkins Rd.  Stay on Acadian Thruway which will turn into Stanford Ave.  Stay in the left lane and Stanford Ave will turn into LSU Ave.  Continue straight then turn right on Highland Rd.  After entering the Gates of LSU, turn left onto Nicholson Ext, the Old Front Nine will be on your left before you reach Nicholson Drive.

PACKET PICK-UP: Race Day Packet Pick-Up opens at 6 a.m. at the Packet Pick-Up Tent marked with white balloons. 

RACE BIBS: Only those who have registered for the Race and have a bib will be allowed on the racecourse.   Please provide Emergency Contact Name and Cell Telephone Number on the back of bib and wear bib during entire event. 

TIMING CHIPS:  All timed runners will be using disposable chips.  Each participant who pre-registers for the 5K prior to February 21 will receive a packet through the mail.  The packet will include a timing chip, bib, and t­-shirt.  A participant who registers after February 21, may pick up a race packet at locations publicized on the website komenbatonrouge.org.   Timing Chips will be available for race-day registrants at the Registration Tent (marked by purple balloons).   Packet Pick-Up for 10K Runners is Friday March 4 from Noon to 6pm at the Race Site and again on Race Day beginning at 6 am. 

RESTROOMS / PORT-O-POTTIES:  Port-o-potties are available on the Race Grounds. 

MEDICAL PERSONNEL:  Medical personnel will be provided at the Race. 

PETS, BICYCLES AND IN-LINE SKATES ARE PROHIBITED for the safety of our Race participants. 

BABY STROLLERS AND WAGONS:  If you choose to participate with a stroller or wagon, please position yourself last after all the walkers.  

WATER STOPS:  Water stations are located at Mile Marker One and Mile Marker Two on the racecourse.  Three additional stations are available on (or along) the 10K course. 

FOOD AND BEVERAGES:  The Jambalaya Village will feature free jambalaya prepared by contest participants. Race participants are encouraged to vote for their favorite jambalaya cook by making a donation in the receptacle located at their cooking pot.  The cook who raises the most donations wins.  Please bring cash or a check and vote for your favorite.  To find out more about joining the competition, call 615-8740 or visit KomenBatonRouge.org. Complimentary beverages will be available from a variety of vendors.  

TEAM T-SHIRT COMPETITION:  Team T-Shirts will be on display in the Team T-shirt Tent. Race participants are encouraged to vote for their favorite t-shirt design by making a donation for said team while at this tent.  The shirt with the most donations will win the competition.  Don’t forget to bring cash or a check and vote for your favorite

LOST CHILDREN:  Pre-approved volunteers will escort a lost child to the stage.  Find a volunteer in a blue shirt or a committee member in a purple shirt to report a lost child.  Please assist a lost child on the racecourse to the nearest water station.  Parents:  be sure to fill out the medical and contact information on the back of each child’s race bib before the event.  Children who have not registered for the race will not be allowed on the race course.  

LOST AND FOUND:  Lost items should be brought to the stage where they may be claimed. 

INFORMATION:  Information services are provided for your convenience at the Volunteer Tent. 

POST-RACE FESTIVITIES:  Awards Ceremony begins at 10:30 am; followed by live music. 

TAILGATE AREA:  The tailgate area will be located to the right of the main stage.  Tailgaters who would like to set up tents the night before the Race, may do so after 3:00 pm on Friday, March 4. Security will be onsite.  However, Komen Baton Rouge will not be responsible for lost or stolen property left in the tailgate area overnight. 

TRIBUTE TENT:  A tribute tent marked by light pink balloons will provide a lovely park-like setting. Race participants may visit to reflect and remember a lost loved one, take a moment of quietness to celebrate the life of a survivor or pray for strength for themselves or someone who is currently in a breast cancer battle.  

IN HONOR OF / MEMORY OF BIBS:  The “In Honor of” and “In Memory of” bibs can be picked up at the Survivors’ Tent and the Registration Tent and are available for all Race participants.  

DONATIONS: (marked by green balloons) Individual and team fundraising, memorial, honorary, and general donations are also gladly accepted on Race Day. Donations may also be made online at KomenBatonRouge.org, or by mailing checks to Komen Race for the Cure, PO Box 14615, Baton Rouge, LA 70898.  Please include Individual / Team Name and phone number with donation to ensure proper credit toward your fundraising goal.  Fundraising continues to April 5th.
